About The Souk
The Souk is an ethical cafe in the heart of downtown Whitby. It’s a welcoming space for everyone where you can meet up with friends and family, get your work done or simply unwind after a long day. The cafe offers freshly brewed coffee, specialty teas, and tasty bites made daily, all inside a cozy and inviting space where you can also find physical products to purchase from local artisans and support important causes.
Beverage Photographer - New Drink on the Menu!
Are you a photography student who loves to take pictures of food and drinks? Are you looking for an opportunity to have your work featured inside a real cafe for customers to see as they walk in? The Souk is accepting applications from student photographers to help us launch a very special project. We are introducing a new menu drink dedicated to raising funds for Lebanon, with a portion of every purchase going directly to support the Lebanese Red Cross.
We are specifically looking for a student currently enrolled in a photography program to collaborate with us. The selected photographer will capture the new beverage, and the final image will be proudly featured on a prominent, floor-standing sign right at our entrance to welcome every customer who walks through our doors.
Key Responsibilities:
Capture high-energy action shots of participants entering the water, as well as candid moments, group photos, and key event highlights.
Deliver a mix of wide-angle crowd shots and tight, expressive portraits that convey the community spirit of the event.
Select, colour-correct, and lightly edit a curated gallery of the day's best images.
Submit the finalized digital files via a shared drive within an agreed timeline post-event.
Qualifications and Equipment Requirements:
Must be currently enrolled in a photography or digital media program
Own and operate a professional or semi-professional DSLR / mirrorless camera
Possess lenses suitable for outdoor, fast-moving action and variable winter lighting conditions (telephoto and weather-sealed gear recommended)
Ability to work efficiently in a cold, fast-paced outdoor beach environment.
What you will gain:
Letter of Reference: A formal letter of recommendation from our leadership team upon successful delivery of the photos, detailing your professionalism, reliability, and technical skill for future employers.
Portfolio Development: Full rights to use the captured images for your professional portfolio, website, and academic assignments.
Networking: Establish lasting relationships with local non-profit leaders, community organizers, and field professionals who can provide valuable career mentorship and future employment leads.
